Blood upon Every Throne

1 Kings 14:21-16:28

[Verse 1] Rehoboam reigns in Jerusalem while Judah provokes God with high places and idols. Rehoboam replaces Solomon's golden shields with brass. Abijam follows his father's sins, yet David's lamp remains in Jerusalem. He removes sodomites and idols from the land. [Pre-Chorus] The warning stood where no one wished to see, And every hidden root became a tree. [Chorus] Blood upon Every Throne, let the warning remain, Hidden sin still flowers into pain. The word of the LORD exposed what men concealed, And judgment stood where every heart was revealed. [Verse 2] Asa sends temple silver and gold to Ben-hadad for a Syrian alliance. Baasha abandons Ramah, and Judah uses its materials at Geba and Mizpah. Asa grows diseased in his feet and dies. Baasha kills Nadab and destroys Jeroboam's entire house. [Bridge] Elah reigns briefly and is murdered while drunk by Zimri. Zimri destroys Baasha's house but reigns only seven days. When Omri is proclaimed king, Zimri burns the palace over himself. Omri defeats rival Tibni, builds Samaria, and exceeds former kings in evil. [Final Chorus] Blood upon Every Throne, let the warning remain, Hidden sin still flowers into pain. The word of the LORD exposed what men concealed, And judgment stood where every heart stood revealed. [Outro] The warning did not vanish with the dust. The final line remembered judgment, fear, and trust.
