Malachi

Where the songs go in Malachi

The 15 songs here set 4 of the 4 movements in Malachi to music: “I Have Loved You, and You Say Wherein” (Malachi 1), “The Priests Have Departed Out of the Way” (Malachi 2), “Will a Man Rob God” (Malachi 3) and “The Sun of Righteousness” (Malachi 4). Others take the book as a whole.

I Have Loved You, and You Say Wherein (Malachi 1). The last book of the Old Testament is a series of arguments, and each one has the same shape: God states something, the people answer with a question, and God produces the evidence.

Will a Man Rob God (Malachi 3). A messenger will prepare the way, and the Lord will come suddenly to his temple and sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.

The Sun of Righteousness (Malachi 4). The day comes burning as an oven, and for those who fear his name the Sun of righteousness rises with healing in his wings, and they go out and grow up like calves of the stall.
