Lyrics · Joshua
Thirty-One Kings
Joshua 11:1-12:24
[Verse 1]
Hazor called the north together, armies thick as shoreland sand,
Horses, chariots, kings at Merom gathered under one command.
Joshua came suddenly, and terror broke the crowded line,
Horses hamstrung, chariots burning, Hazor fell beneath the fire.
[Pre-Chorus]
Long the war and hard the heart,
Yet Joshua left nothing God commanded undone.
[Chorus]
Thirty-one kings fell before Israel,
Jericho to Tirzah, every name became a count.
From Lebanon to southern mountain,
The land received its rest when stubborn kingdoms all came down.
[Verse 2]
Anakim were cut from Hebron, Debir, and the mountain towns,
Only Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod kept a remnant of their line.
Moses' eastern victories framed the record with Sihon and Og,
Then western cities filled the list beneath Joshua's command.
[Bridge]
Jerusalem and Lachish, Bethel, Megiddo, Hazor,
Aphek, Taanach, Kedesh, Dor, and every royal center.
One by one the names were numbered, not as legend but as land,
And the final line declared the count of kings was thirty-one.
[Final Chorus]
Thirty-one kings fell before Israel,
Jericho to Tirzah, every name became a count.
From Lebanon to southern mountain,
The land received its rest when stubborn kingdoms all came down.
[Outro]
The list became a witness,
And the land rested from war.
