Deuteronomy
[Verse 1] One hundred twenty years behind him, Still his eye was clear and strong. Moses called the tribes together, Gave them law and final song. Joshua stood before the people, Hands received the charge to lead: "Be strong and of a good courage; The Lord goes on before your need." [Refrain] Upon Mount Nebo, He saw what he would not possess: Gilead, Judah, Jericho, The valley spread in loveliness. Upon Mount Nebo, The promise lay beneath the sky; The servant saw the land from far, Then closed his mortal eye. [Verse 2] No man knew the place of burial, Moab kept the hidden grave. Israel mourned for thirty mornings For the prophet God had raised. Face to face the Lord had known him, Signs in Egypt marked his hand; Yet another crossed the Jordan To complete the Lord's command. [Bridge] The law remained beside them. The song remained to warn. The blessing passed through every tribe Before a leader mourned. [Final Refrain] Upon Mount Nebo, The wilderness lay at his back. Before him stood the promised fields, Beyond one final track. No prophet rose like Moses In the wonders he had done; The servant died, the people moved, And Joshua led them on.
