Lyrics · 1 Chronicles
From Adam unto Judah
1 Chronicles 1:1-2:55
[Verse 1]
The genealogy begins with Adam, Seth, and Enosh.
Noah and his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth stand after the flood generation.
Ham's line begins through Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
Mizraim and Canaan's descendants form nations later known to Israel.
[Pre-Chorus]
The speeches rose, each certain of its claim,
But certainty alone could not explain.
[Chorus]
From Adam unto Judah, let the question open wide,
Human answers fail when pride becomes the guide.
Wisdom cannot be purchased, mined, or seized,
It comes from God, before whom striving ceased.
[Verse 2]
Ishmael's twelve princes are recorded by name.
Keturah's sons and grandsons expand Abraham's household eastward.
Isaac fathers Esau and Israel.
Israel's twelve sons are named as the tribal fathers.
[Bridge]
Perez fathers Hezron and Hamul, continuing the chosen line.
Hezron's descendants branch through Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.
Ram's line reaches Nahshon, Salma, Boaz, Obed, Jesse.
The remaining families of Jerahmeel and Caleb settle the wider genealogy of Judah.
[Final Chorus]
From Adam unto Judah, let the question open wide,
Human answers fail when pride becomes the guide.
Wisdom cannot be purchased, mined, or seized,
It comes from God, before whom human pride must cease.
[Outro]
The question stayed when every speech was through.
Wisdom began where human certainty withdrew.
