Lyrics · Genesis
Go Forth from Your Country
Genesis 11:27-14:24
[Verse 1]
Terah left Ur but rested short of Canaan's line,
Then Abram heard the calling that would sever place and kind.
At seventy-five he gathered house and herd and road,
And crossed into a country only promise could disclose.
[Pre-Chorus]
At Shechem rose an altar,
Between Bethel and Ai a name was called.
[Chorus]
Go forth from your country, walk where the promise leads,
A blessing for the nations will rise from unseen seed.
Though famine bends the pathway and fear may blur the view,
The One who called from Haran will remain the guide to you.
[Verse 2]
Egypt exposed the weakness hidden underneath his fear,
But Abram came again to where the altar had stood clear.
He gave Lot first choosing, and the Jordan plain looked fair,
Yet Sodom held the shadow that his nephew settled near.
[Bridge]
When eastern kings took captives, Abram armed his faithful men,
Pursued them through the darkness and brought Lot home again.
Melchizedek blessed him, bread and wine before the King,
And Abram would not let Sodom claim the wealth deliverance brings.
[Final Chorus]
Go forth from your country, walk where the promise leads,
Lift your eyes in every direction, count the dust beneath your feet.
Though the road keeps unfolding beyond all that you knew,
The One who called from Haran will remain the guide to you.
[Outro]
Tent and altar, promise and road,
Abram kept moving beneath the word of God.
