Leviticus opens with “Five Ways to Come to the Door” and carries its history toward “Sabbaths That Stack Into a Jubilee.” Before a single offering is made, five are described: whole burnt, grain, peace, sin and guilt. Feasts fill the year and rest fills the week, and then the sabbaths pile up: seven sevens of years, and the fiftieth announced with a trumpet.

Before a single offering is made, five are described: whole burnt, grain, peace, sin and guilt. What matters is who may bring them. A worshipper too poor for a bull may bring birds, and one too poor for birds may bring flour, so the door is never closed by price.

Leviticus 8–10
Aaron and his sons are washed, robed and anointed through seven days of ordination. On the eighth the glory appears, fire comes out and consumes the offering, and the people shout and fall on their faces. Then Nadab and Abihu bring fire God did not ask for, and the same fire kills them. Aaron holds his peace.
