The temple is built and dedicated with a prayer that keeps circling one idea: when they sin, and they will, and they turn back toward this place, then hear. Fire falls, the glory fills the house so the priests cannot enter, and God answers with the promise about humbling themselves and praying and seeking his face.

The kingdom splits when a young king listens to the wrong advisers about a heavy yoke. Judah gets some good ones after him, and the chronicle keeps noticing the same thing: a reign starts well, a treaty is signed with the wrong neighbour, and a prophet turns up to say so.
