That Thou Mightest Know the Certainty
A doctor writes to a man named Theophilus and says he has investigated everything carefully from the first. An old priest is struck dumb, two pregnant women meet and one of them sings about thrones being emptied, and the birth is announced to shepherds, who were not respectable witnesses. Simeon and Anna recognise the baby, a twelve year old stays behind in the temple, and at Nazareth he reads Isaiah aloud and is nearly thrown off a cliff.

This Is Your Hour
The questions in the temple get sharper and the answers sharper still. At supper he says he has earnestly desired to eat this passover with them, and the argument at the table is about rank. In the garden he sweats as it were great drops of blood, and an ear is cut off and put back. Herod wants a miracle and gets silence. On the cross he prays for the men driving the nails, and promises paradise to a criminal.

Luke 24
Did Not Our Heart Burn Within Us
Two men walk to Emmaus arguing about the weekend, and a stranger joins them and explains the Scriptures the whole way without saying who he is. They only recognise him when he breaks the bread, and then he is gone and they run seven miles back in the dark. He eats a piece of fish to prove he is not a ghost, and the Gospel ends with a blessing, and with great joy.
